Art and science both stem from humanity’s desire to explore and resolve the mysteries of our existence, our Earth, and the universe beyond.
The point at which the wonder of natural phenomena begins to awaken the mind and imagination is the point at which art, science and humanity meet. My vision is to harmonize these perspectives.
The creation of this project is deeply rooted in the explicit desire to amalgamate specialized fields of research and innovation: art, video, acoustic ecology, scientific climate research, and the study of climate change’s impact on the environment and our civilization. Together, these form the basic structure of the project’s “medium” as an artwork, but also act as the jumping off point of a global initiative.
Scientists around the world are reporting climate change with more frequency and urgency, and we must act now or risk losing two of our most fragile ecosystems. The Polar Project is a nexus where the art community, environmental organizations, scientific research institutions, and advanced technology work together to preserve the Arctic and Antarctica as a part of humanity’s cultural and world heritage.
