  • You finally arrived. Thrilling. Love, Nora

  • Erika, as you say, words aren’t enough. On the other hand AWESOME springs to mind! Looking forward to talking with you more.

  • These images are breathtaking, Erika, thank you so much for sharing them with us. Hope you’re keeping warm somehow.

  • No need for words. Let the light continue to speak. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey.

  • Dear Erika — Hooray! It was so uplifting to read your blog while slogging away at work in NYC with Mateo sick. I can’t believe you’ve gone from one extremely arid climate to another but at least now you wear long underwear. Some cute guys on that team of your’s.

    xoxo, Karen

  • Seeing the last of these photos arrive in my inbox this morning, my first thought was how right it is that you are there and how right this project.

Perhaps a strange comparison, but the Antarctic landscape reminds me of the similar stark beauty of unpopulated areas in New Mexico. And I’m also wonderstruck as the true shines through when our thoughts and obsessions are blasted away by the beauty of this miraculous planet we inhabit.

BTW, good luck with Merleau-Ponty! Can’t think of a better book to take with you to the end of the world.

  • So happy to see you are there! Thanks for showing us…

  • CONGRATS ERIKA! You’ve made it!

And I must say that I’m incredibly jealous. It looks absolutely phenomenal, in every way.

  • Amazing landscapes Erika! It’s nice to follow your journey via images and text as I sit in my heated apartment ;) Looks cold!!

  • Congratulations Erika! You finally made it. For someone who’s always so cold, I’m surprised to see you standing there with your gloves off.

I see from your equipment list that you didn’t/couldn’t bring a digital audio recorder. But I’m sure the Panasonic camera will serve you well and record some wonderful audio. I can’t wait to see and hear bits and pieces of what you’ve been able to collect.

Be safe, travel safe and don’t forget to come home again. From the “Land of Enchantment” to the “Land of Extremes”, Hasta la Vista!

  • Erika! I remember that wonderstruck feeling so well and it makes me so happy to know that you are there seeing firsthand what I’ve tried to explain in so many conversations! I know you understand now why I say that Antarctica is a cross between heaven and another planet. I am sorry we didn’t get a chance to speak before you left…I’ll be tracking you on the blog and am thrilled for you!

    Much love,
    Lauren

  • You are absolutely radiant in sub-zero! You are an awe inspiring reminder of the infinite possibilities attainable when following one’s dream!
